Bye Bye Adenoids, Hello Tubes

Well today was the day that "baby" Finn had his adenoids removed and tubes placed.  Surgery was scheduled at 7:15 am and we were supposed to be there at 6:00 am.  Boy oh boy did that make for an early morning!  I think that Kevin and I were more groggy than Finn!

We arrived at the Natalie Building right at 6:00.  Finn was in a surprisingly good mood for being woken up.

Finn's hair was wild....and so was he!

All dressed up and ready to go!
Finn was a huge fan of the wagon they brought for him!

We went on several rides up and down the hallway while we were waiting!  It wasn't easy keeping this munchkin entertained.

Finn snuggling with the bear that the hospital gave him.

Me and Finnster after his "sleepy juice"....I also appear to have had some sleepy juice, I am NOT a morning person!

Mimi and Papa came to wait with us while Finn was in surgery.  It was nice to have the company and support.  Dr. Heinberg was the surgeon.  He did an amazing job!  We have been so pleased with him!

When they called us into recovery, Finn was really agitated.  It was awful seeing him like that.  The nurse was attempting to give him a breathing treatment and he was having nothing to do with it.  The good news was that he started drinking his juice almost immediately.  We were able to move from recovery to discharge fairly quickly.  As we talked to the discharge nurse Kevin looked down to discover that Finn had pulled the IV out of his hand!  It was pretty horrifying at first, but the nurse was great!  She was very calm and stopped the bleeding quickly.  I swear that this boy is going to give me a run for my money!

In discharge, Mimi and Papa were able to join us.  There is no doubt that Finn loves his Papa.  As soon as he saw him he wanted to be held.  Watching these two together MELTS MY HEART.

Finn and his Papa

If it's possible to hear a heart break we would have heard one when Papa had to leave.  Mimi and Papa had to leave in order to get Reese to her swim lessons.  We are so lucky to have grandparents that are so helpful and hands on.  Anyway, when it was time to leave Papa handed Finn to me....and Finn lost it!  Poor Papa had the hardest time walking away....it was terrible!

The good news is that I had a banana in my purse so Finn's mood quickly changed!  He loves bananas!  It was also great that he was already willing to eat!

All in all, Finn has done very well!  He has been a trooper!  After his nap today he woke up with what appears to be two black (or soon to be black eyes).  It's pretty pitiful :(

But for the most part he is smiling through it.

We aren't completely sure what happened, but my brother thinks that they may have had his mask too tight during the procedure.  Hopefully they won't be too bad in the morning.  Guess we will see.  I'm glad this is behind us and that we can move forward!
