Ouch! Reese's Boo Boo

Last night we had an accident at our house....one of those accidents that takes your breath away and makes your heart skip a beat.

Reese and I had gone swimming with our friends Laura and Claire (another story on that later).  We were gone from 4 - 6.  For some reason when we got home I was not feeling well.  I think it was the heat and chasing Reese around, but I was pretty defeated by the time we got home.  Since we were just having a "blah" night we decided to kick it "old school" and eat Ramen for dinner.  Reese actually really likes Ramen, so it was a cheap, easy solution.  Kevin was in the kitchen cooking and Reese wanted to help.  He picked her up so that she could help him stir the soup.  As he was watching the hot pan, Reese reached down and put her hand on the HOT burner.

***YELP***SCREAM***CRY***

It immediately blistered and Reese was inconsolable.  It was horrible!  As her parents, it was absolutely gut wrenching.  We loaded her up and took her to the Pediatric Urgent Care.  They calmed us down a little, but also raised some serious concerns.  Because the burns "crossed" the creases of her fingers, they were concerned that the potential for scar tissue could effect her long turn mobility in those fingers.  They put some ointment on it and wrapped it in this HUGE dressing and sent us home.  We had specific directions to go to the burn clinic first thing in the morning.

So, this morning that's what we did.  Mimi and Papa came over to go with us.  The doctor at the burn center had very little bedside manner, but he did tell us that everything would be fine...which was VERY nice to hear.  We have another ointment that we have to apply every morning and then "redress" the wound.  I feel so bad for her, but she is actually handling it really well.

The dressing they did last night wrapped all of her fingers into one tight glove...and she couldn't get to her thumb, the one thing that comforts her.  Fortunately, today's dressing allows her access to her thumb.  And thank goodness!

We go back to the burn clinic next Tuesday, so hopefully we will get the "all clear" at that time.
